Chapter Thirteen

Clint called Eric’s parents. It was the hardest phone call he’d ever made. Of course, they flipped out; not knowing exactly how bad the situation was only made things worse. He didn’t have any information to give them because nobody would tell him anything. He wasn’t family.

He rode back to the station with the female cop he spoke with earlier to give his statement and sign some paperwork. He hadn’t seen anything, so there wasn’t much to say. All they wanted was for him to identify Chase McClintock and tell them if he knew any reason he would want to hurt Eric. Clint did so, gladly.

“I want to talk to him. Is that possible?” Clint looked at the two apprehensive cops with a smirk.

“We don’t think that’s a good idea,” the older one finally said.

“Look, you can record it, you can send somebody in there with me. He is my dad; I am family. I need to speak to him, please,” Clint begged.

“Let him talk to the boy. After all, this is all about you,” said a plain-clothed cop sitting at a corner desk.

“Excuse me,” Clint said, his temper rising.

“He didn’t rough that kid up because he hated him. He roughed him up because he loves you,” said the meddling officer.

“If that’s what you want to call it,” Clint said, looking away. This asshole obviously had no idea what kind of person Chase McClintock was, and Clint wasn’t going to argue with him about it.

“I admit he isn’t going to win any humanitarian awards, but…”

“Listen, man,” Clint interrupted. “You don’t know anything about who and what he is.”

“That might be true,” the cop said, turning his chair away from Clint. “Let him in and see what he says.”
